Since releasing his debut commercial mixtape Luv Is Rage in 2015, Lil Uzi Vert has exploded onto the rap scene as one of the hottest artists in the music industry. In 2016, Uzi dropped two more mixtapes, was featured as a member of the 2016 XXL Freshmen, and reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 featuring on the smash hit, Bad and Boujee by Migos.
Now in 2017, Uzi has reached another milestone with his latest single, XO TOUR Llif3, reaching number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100. The popularity of the song has amassed millions of stream and even his own viral trend, the “Lil Uzi Vert Challenge“, where people imitate Uzi’s signature dancing style.
But this might be the most impressive thing to come from XO TOUR Llif3.
In the song, Uzi speaks on his struggles with his long-time girlfriend and dealing with substance abuse while addressing issues of suicide and betrayal and in the video we see a custom Grand Theft Auto character portraying Uzi as he raps about his conflicts. Matching up Uzi’s lyrics with actions within the video game and executing a sick slow-motion effect really has this video feeling like it could be the actual music video for XO TOUR Llif3.
This masterpiece was created by YouTuber Tee Taylor, who has a full catalog of GTA music videos just like this. In the description of the video, Taylor says, “I didn’t try on this video sorry.”
Jeez, if this isn’t trying then I’m curious as to what is.
