Last night’s Grammy’s show was a hit, but Nike made an impressive statement before the night filled of music. The world renowned athletic brand released a 90-sec ad that features LeBron James, Serena Williams, Kevin Durant, Megan Rapinoe, Dalilah Muhammad, Gabby Douglas, Victor Cruz, and actor Michael B. Jordan.
The star-quality infused ad was launched from advertising agency Wieden + Kennedy in Portland and directed by Melina Matsoukas.
The approach that Nike took on this ad was an effort to give a voice to people and go beyond the limits of the hardwood and gridiron by uniting different communities through sports. This isn’t a typical Nike commercial; there is more behind it, as Nike has partnered up with world-class organization (PeacePlayers International and Mentor: The National Mentoring Partnership).
This month, Nike has truly been busy with promoting and pushing for equality, especially with the Black History Month collection t-shirt release that has “Equality” printed on it. Nike will also be donating $5 million to different organizations this year to continue to promote the message of equality across the country and keep the advertising rising on billboard, avatars, posters, and filters available to everyone in the U.S and Canada.
