While the late Craig Sager’s impact was powerful in the NBA media world, his influence stretched beyond the borders of basketball.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate, one of the many athletes outside of basketball that admired Sager, is expected to wear a pair of custom cleats – inspired by one of Sager’s vibrant suits – this upcoming Sunday when the Lions visit the New York Giants.
The cleats, designed by sneaker customizer El Cappy, don a white, grey, black and blue color scheme with a floral pattern along the heel, midsole and collar of the shoe. It draws inspiration from a black and blue suit Sager wore during the 2016 NBA Finals at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
Tate recently unveiled a few images of his 1-of-1 cleats on Instagram shortly after sharing a separate tribute to Sager on the same platform
Here’s an image of the suit that inspired the design of Tate’s cleats.
