ESPN Announces Departure of Reporter John Clayton 'The Professor' leaves behind legendary career in Bristol

There’s good reporting and then there’s great reporting. The infamous John Clayton was amongst the greatest to ever work in his field.

According to Sporting News, John Clayton has joined the group of individuals that have been laid off from ESPN. A career that spanned 23 years, Clayton was widely known for his role with NFL Insider and having eyes and ears throughout the league. If his work didn’t already speak for itself, John was inducted into the writer’s wing of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.

Check out his most memorable moment at ESPN with this commercial.

So why the layoffs for ESPN? It’s possible the sports broadcasting company is continuing to refresh its brand and bring in more up-and-coming personalities. Clayton took to Twitter Wednesday to thank his employers, co-workers and fans.

Fortunately, there is some positive news for us all. Clayton will be keeping his signature rocker hairstyle.
