Since 1987, GIFs have given the web a creative and fun way to visually communicate messages. Something between a still picture, an animation, and a video clip, these moving images have become second-nature for digital communication, and now Facebook is getting in on the action.
Facebook recently announced it will be adding the beloved GIF to the social media’s application on mobile devices through the camera function. Once you open the app on your phone or other mobile devices, simply swipe to the left, and open up the camera app. At the top of the screen you will be given the chance to create your own GIF. From there, you essentially take a quick couple of seconds video, and your masterpiece is ready for the world to see.
Of course, Facebook will also offer an array of fun effects and filters to spice up that new content — it only seems right to let users fully customize their GIF experience.
As of now, only a handful of iOS users have reported access to the GIF creator. While it is likely still in development, users can expect to see the feature across all platforms such as Android and the rest of the iOS community soon. Facebook has given its users the power of GIF’s through the comment section and its Messenger application as well, so the new addition seems to fit perfectly.
